FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Sophi Chic brings The Beauty Bash to Richmond!

I am thrilled to announce that Sophi Chic will host its summer installment of The Beauty Bash, on June 16, 2012 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at KAI Lounge located in the historic Shockoe Slip area of Richmond, VA.  The health & beauty event will feature sponsorship from Sephora,  a leading visionary beauty-retail brand built on classic and emerging products across a broad range of categories including skin care, fragrance, body, and hair care.

The Back Story: Sophi Chic was created as an homage to my inner beauty connoisseur and spa aficionado.  I began working part-time a few years ago in Chicago at Chocolate for Your Body, a trendy salon downtown, where I was in charge of coordinating spa parties, marketing, and planning in-house beauty events.  After moving to Richmond I decided I wanted a business of my own.  So, from there the dedication, time and energy began to create what I like to call “sophisticated chic experiences.”

The Goal: My vision is to provide exposure to local beauty brands, assist small business owners with marketing to increase their customer base, all while rewarding and empowering women.  Sophi Chic began as a beauty blog covering healthy hair how-to’s, make-up inspirations, nail trends, skin care, and fashion obsessions.  A year later it has developed into a full fledge event and consulting business.  I feel so blessed, and I look forward to everything the future holds.

The Event: The Beauty Bash will provide women with an evening of pampering, health and wellness, and a stylish shopping experience. Attendees will have exclusive access to local clothing, accessories, and cosmetics vendors. On-site services for the evening will include mini manicures, eyelash extensions, eye treatments, brow shaping, chair massages,  hair consultations and more!  A list of event details, updates, and announcements can be found at

Chic Features: FREE Product Samples by Sephora for all attendees, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, “Swag Bags” for VIP guests, fundraising for local charities, and breast cancer education by the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation.

Tickets are available online only. General admission tickets will include one beauty service and one free raffle entry. VIP admission tickets include two beauty services, one exclusive Sophi Chic swag bag and one free raffle entry. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the YWCA of Richmond to support victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse.

Salons and Service Providers: Sephora, Main Street Spa and Wellness Center, Precision One Salon and Spa, Renewal Day Spa, Glamour Eyes, Waterfalls Salon & Spa

Vendors and Gift Bag Participants: Sephora, Tahira Cosmetics, Pucker Cake by DollFactory, Artistry, Mary Kay, Short Pump Threading, Coalesce MUA, Closet Junkie Boutique, Premier Designs, Pure Romance,  Bronzed and Beautiful Airbursh Tanning, Epic Curls Boutique, It Works!, Sleep Squares, JewelMint, Pink Chyna Accessories

The Beauty Bash is the only place in RVA where you can get an array of beauty services, food, shopping, and networking, all under one roof.  This will be an affair you don’t want to miss!

9 Beauty Products You Can Swap With Your Man

, ,

It’s 6:45 a.m., and you’re running late for work. To make matters worse your shaving gel just ran out, leaving your legs resembling a cactus plant in the Mojave Dessert.  You spot your guy’s shaving cream on the bathroom sink. Sure, it’s made for men, but can it be good for women too?  Oh YES! Lather up those prickly legs and put that cream to good use!

So what other products can couples share in the bathroom??  Below are ten beauty items that will not only save you precious space in the bathroom but will keep both you AND your man looking fab.

#1  Body Lotion – An unscented or light fragrance lotion works best for both sexes.  I suggest Eucerin Skin Daily Balance Body Lotion or Nivea Body Lotion.

Nivea Body Essentially Enriched Daily Lotion ~ $5.99

#2 Deodorant – Chicago-based dermatologist Dr. Carolyn Jacobs, says it’s ok to share an antiperspirant like Dove Men+Care’s to shield against wetness and guard against odor.  Oh and it’s a lot stronger than women’s deodorants!

Dove Men+Care Clinical Protection ~ $7.99

#3 Facial Polishing Power – Every guy needs to learn how to exfoliate.  This powder can be mixed with any facial cleanser to create an exfoliating scrub. So chic!  You can even mix it with water if your guy hasn’t stepped up to a “facial cleanser” yet.

Lather Facial Polishing Power ~ $11.00

#5  Lip Balm – Fellas, now you and your lady can both get soft, kissable lips together.  Fresh’s Sugar Lip Treatment comes in an aluminum case and goes on neutral.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment  ~ $22.50

#6 Shave Cream – This natural unscented shaving cream by Esty is excellent for both women and men and for all body parts. Shea butter and alpha hydroxy acids help fight razor burn and ingrown hairs.

All Natural Unscented Shaving Cream ~19.99

#7 Tweezers – Ladies don’t pretend that uni-brow on your man is ok!  Maybe he will make a change, with this easy-to-use gem from Tweezerman.

Tweezerman Gel Grip Slant Tweezers ~ $22.00

#8 Mask – Have a couple’s spa night and enjoy how amazing your skin will feel after trying this mask loved by Nina Dobrev and Pamela Anderson’s ex, Tommy Lee.

GlamGlow Tingling & Exfoliating Mud Mask ~ $78.00

#9 Face Wipes – Keep both your faces clear with these pre-soaked blemish pads from B. Kamins. Perfect for wiping away sweat and cleansing skin after a hot joint couples workout!

B. Kamins Anti-Blemish Pads ~ $30.00

You and your boo can now put your best face masks on, lotion up and start tackling your grooming woes together.

As always….Stay Chic!

Fresh Fashion: The Sachika Twins

Check out these new up and coming Designers, To-Tam & To-Nya of SACHIKA. They are identical twin (Vietnamese) designers from Paris whose clothing line is said to be inspired for the “modern woman”.  The two sisters’ are a celebrity fave and the duo showcased their spring 2012 line at New York’s Metropolitan Pavilion on September 13.

Their plan is to branch out to accessories, a TV show, books, and much more to build their empire.  In addition to their women’s wear, Sachika Twins plan on expanding their “TUX” line of sophisticated t-shirts for men into a fully developed men’s collection.  I am very interested to see how popular these two become, but I’m not 100% in love with their look yet.  The clothes are interesting enough to keep me watching for now, and I think we all should stay tuned!

hairstyle tips, hair tips

Prunes – Aside from keeping your bowels in good working order, prunes can help improve your hair. They are a good source of iron. Apparently individuals who are iron-deficient can experience unattractive changes to their hair including hair loss, dryness, and thinning.

Brown Short-Grain Rice – Not all carbs are bad.  Complex carbohydrates are good for you and feed your energy over a longer period of time. Brown short-grain rice is a great source of B vitamins and fiber.  Both essential for healthy hair.

Green peas – Eat your peas, please! They are extremely well-balanced and offer different vitamins and minerals, including those that are important for healthy hair, like iron, zinc and B vitamins.

Shrimp– I have always said Shrimp is the poor mans lobster.  Now, I will take shrimp over lobster any day because it helps you keep your hair! It’s an excellent source of vitamin B12, iron and zinc — key vitamins and minerals that you’ll need in your fight against hair loss.

Kidney beans – Funny, I didn’t know what the word “Legumes” meant until probably a year ago.  Look it up people… Kidney beans have long been pushed for their healthy-hair-promoting properties. Not only are they a great source of iron and zinc, but they’re also a source of protein. Studies have shown that severe protein deficiency can lead to unhealthy hair.

Walnuts – Walnuts are your friend. Not only do walnuts have more omega-6 fatty acids than any other food, but they’re also full of zinc, iron, B vitamins (B1, B6 and B9), and plenty of protein.

Two Juglans regia walnuts.

Pumpkin seeds – My grandmother used to roast pumpkin seeds with a dash of salt in the oven when we were little kids.  Yummy!  Like walnuts, pumpkin seeds are loaded with all the goodness your hair could ever want: protein, omega-6 fatty acids, zinc and iron.

Foreign seeds can be caught anywhere, includin...

Chic Alert! Dangers of Hair Chemicals….Tumors?

, , , ,

A study conducted by the The American Journal of Epidemiology links hair relaxers to risk of Uterine Leiomyomata in African-American Women.  Yikes!

“Hair relaxers are used by millions of women, especially black, possibly exposing them to various chemicals through scalp lesions and burns”. Researchers at Boston University are also linking hair relaxers to uterine fibroid tumors and early puberty. How crazy is this?!

Scientists from Lauren Wise of Boston University’s Slone Epidemiology Center followed over 23,000 pre-menopausal Black American women from 1997 to 2009 and found the fibroid rate higher among women whose hair was exposed to chemicals.

For now researches are only “associating” relaxers, fibroids and early puberty. They can’t confirm an exact cause and effect relationship.

However, association may be enough for long-term relaxer users. Here’s a question, why aren’t the ingredients in relaxers regulated more strictly by the FDA??? Probably would affect too many pockets.  No one’s health should be put at risk for a hairstyle.

I’m not saying I’m anti-relaxers, I’m just saying I’m natural….

Stay Healthy…

Chic Report: KIMORA LEE SIMMONS Launches Skincare Line

Entrepreneur/Mogul and multi-faceted, style icon, Kimora Lee Simmons will be launching a new skin care line called Shinto Clinical.  The line consists of nine pieces, and merges Eastern skin care ingredients including fish oil, omegas, pearl powder, Wakame kelp extract and beta glucans with Western skin care technological advances.

“It was a turning point for me and I was just wondering what comes next,” Kimora told WWD recently. “I realized this whole generation of young people has grown up with me. We are no longer living in the clubs. We have responsibilities, we have families, we have kids — I have two husbands, I always say I have an ex and a ‘next’ — I have three kids. I have a million jobs. So I wanted something that certainly addressed my particular needs in skin care.”

This line is her newest venture and is marketed especially for women of diverse backgrounds. The line will debut February 24th on QVC and in Nordstrom and Fred Segal late February, early March. It retails from $32 for a cleanser to $68 for a “skin-lightening” product [side-eye].  Kimora  is also seeking contestants to enter to be a part of her new skin care line’s ad campaign.  Casting starts Nov. 16th in L.A. She is seeking females, 18+ with radiant skin and a healthy glow.
